The Meadows Museum presents a Rare Sight for Art Lovers
Get a rare chance to see all thirteen paintings of Francisco de Zurbarán’s most monumental series, “Jacob and his Twelve Sons,” now on displays at the Meadows Museum! Created during the 1640s, these extraordinary works have never been seen in America, and will leave their home in Auckland Castle for only the second time in centuries.
Purchased in 1756 by Richard Trevor, Bishop of Durham, Trevor subsequently redesigned Auckland Castle’s Long Dining Room to house the series of paintings, which together comprise one of the most significant public collections of Zurbarán’s work outside Spain. The upcoming restoration of Auckland Castle - which involves the temporary deinstallation of the series from the room where the paintings have hung for more than 250 years - presents this unique study and exhibition opportunity. Be sure to visit and see for yourself!
